President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Halilu Ahmad Shaba as Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, read his request for confirmation at plenary on Tuesday.

The letter dated 25th February, 2021, was pursuant to Sections 14(1) and (2) of the National Space Research & Development Agency Act, 2010.

In another letter on the same date, Buhari asked the upper chamber to confirm Muhammed Dattijo Usman as Federal Commissioner representing Niger State in the National Polulation Commission.

The request was made in accordance with the provision of Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Francis Dubem Chizea had been there Acting NARSDA DG. He took over after Jonathan Angulu, who was also in acting capacity.

In July 2019, there was drama in the agency after the expiration of the two-term tenure of Professor Seidu Mohammed.

Angulu was first named the Acting DG in a letter vide FMST/DAS/385/II/T by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Weeks later, Ahmad (as Director of Strategic Space Applications) was asked to occupy the position.

Within a few days, federal government reversed the appointment. Angulu was reinstated and later succeeded by Chizea.
