Jerome Igbeankwe, the technical adviser of ABS FC, said his players were injured by the physicality of City FC.
City Football Club of Abuja on Sunday beat visiting ABS FC of Ilorin 2-1 in a Match Day 6 fixture in Group A1 of the 2021/2022 Nigeria National League (NNL).
In the match played at the Area 10 pitch in Abuja, Abdullahi Ojifini put the visiting side ahead after 21 minutes.
Emmanuel Ihezuorochi drew the hosts level 16 minutes later.
In the eighth minute of added time, Ihezuorochi made it a brace for himself by scoring the winning goal for City FC 2-1 from a penalty kick.
Speaking after the match, Moses Adams, the sporting director of City FC, said what was important for him was that his team picked the maximum three points.
“It’s football, and we have the three points. I think that’s what’s important to us. Our opponents were falling on the pitch every four minutes and making the game more frustrating and difficult to play like that,” said Adams.
He added, “We started slowly in the first half, and picked up in the second half. It’s football, and all that is important in this type of game is if you don’t play that good, you need to win.”
On his part, Jerome Igbeankwe, the technical adviser of ABS FC, said his players were injured by the physicality of City FC.
“The host team were too hard on our players and they needed to be taken care of,” he said.
Week seven fixtures will see ABS FC play host to EFCC FC of Abuja while City FC arevaway to Yobe Desert Stars of Damaturu.
