The 2027 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, has released funds for the re-electrification of more than 50 communities in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and other parts of Ogun East Senatorial District.

The senator said the intervention was aimed at restoring electricity to communities that had been in darkness for over a decade.

A statement by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, in Abeokuta on Sunday, said that the project, being financed from the senator’s personal resources, was expected to cost hundreds of millions of naira.

Mr Odunaro stated that contractors handling the project had mobilised to sites in communities including Onikintimbo, Gbegude, Olorunsogo, Malofe, Itebu-Manuwa, Mile 3 and 4, Igede, Oni, Alo and Olojumeta.

He listed other benefiting communities to include Ibiade, Agodo, Tigara, Igbafo, Ilushin, Camps, Agbure, Efire, Lomiro, Obu, Ayede, Abigi, Ayila, Ita Ogun, Ita Otu, Makun Omi, Igbo Edu, Ode Omi and Awodikora.

The media adviser said that the project also covers several communities in Ijebu East local government area, including J3 Junction, Mafowoku, Trianger, Fowoseje, Fotedo, Itapanpa, Denurin, Malara, Terelu, Toliwo, Uba, Ebute Imobi, Oki Igbode, Itasin, Araromi, Togunselu and Orita J4.

He said that Mr Adeola was concerned that many of the communities, which previously enjoyed electricity supply, had remained without power for over 10 years due to vandalisation of critical infrastructure.

“I was disturbed to learn that a vast area of my state has been in darkness for over a decade, with all the negative implications for socio-economic development and the standard of living.

“It is not everything that should be left for government with limited resources at all levels. That was why I pledged to re-electrify these communities,” Mr Adeola was quoted as saying in the statement.

He added that the contractor handling the project had been urged to complete the project within the shortest possible time.

He expressed optimism that the restoration of electricity would enhance economic activities and improve the quality of life of residents in the affected communities.
