Manchester United’s captain Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw have emerged as the winners of the men’s and women’s Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year Award on Tuesday in Manchester.
Fernandes has become the eighth Man United player to win the men’s PFA award since Wayne Rooney achieved the feat in the 2009/2010 season, and the first to win the award in 16 years.
In just 12 months, the Portuguese international was also named in the PFA Team of the Year and was also the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. In England’s top flight, Fernandes was named the Premier League Player of the Season and the Premier League Fan Team of the Season after shattering the assist record with 21 Premier League assists.
City’s Khadija Shaw clinched her second PFA Women’s Player of the Year award, following her incredible season as she won her third consecutive golden boot after netting 21 goals in the Women’s Super League.
Nico O’Reilly won the PFA Men’s Young Player of the Year, finishing ahead of top talents including Rayan Cherki, Max Dowman, Junior Kroupi, and Rio Ngumoha.
Arsenal’s Olivia Smith claimed her second consecutive PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year. The Canadian international scored 10 goals and four assists in 38 appearances for Arsenal.
