Omoyele Sowore-led Take It Back movement has announced a nationwide and global protest in demand for the release of activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi, who was abducted and remanded in prison over Ekiti strongman Afe Babalola’s defamation petition.

Mr Sowore shared a flyer announcing #FreeDeleFarotimi’s protest on December 10 on X, tagged “Nationwide/Global Protest Against Nigerian Judiciary.”

According to the flyer, protesters will converge on Afe Babalola’s Chamber in Lagos, the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja and the police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.

In London, protesters will hit Kings’ College Campus, where Mr Babalola donated millions of British pounds to advance human rights and education for African students and has a centre named after him.

The planned protest followed the arrest and detention of Mr Farotimi over a petition by Mr Babalola, alleging the activist defamed him.

On Tuesday, Mr Farotimi was picked up Gestapo-style at his office by armed policemen and was swiftly arraigned before a magistrate court in Ekiti.
