The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and the demotion of 16 others over cases of misconduct.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its head of protocol and public relations, Torty Kalu, the commission said the dismissals followed established cases of misconduct.

“The dismissal of the three officers followed established cases of serious misconduct and conduct unbecoming of members of the Force,” the statement read in part.

The commission also approved severe reprimands for 21 officers and ordinary reprimands for two others, while three officers were cleared of wrongdoing. Some previously suspended officers were also reinstated into the Force.

The PSC chairman, Hashimu Argungu reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability within the police, stressing that officers found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures.

He also reiterated the commission’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of misconduct.

The PSC chairman assured Nigerians that disciplinary cases brought before the commission would receive the necessary attention to strengthen professionalism and restore public confidence in the police.

The commission said the latest decisions reflected its continued efforts to promote accountability, enforce professional standards and strengthen discipline within the police.
