Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, China, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said Monday.
Speaking during a meeting in Beijing with Wang Huning, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Matviyenko said cooperation between Russia and China was developing steadily and dynamically.
She said the two countries coordinated their positions on international issues because their approaches were either close or coincided.
“The leaders of our countries have brought Russia-China cooperation to an unprecedentedly high level,” Matviyenko said, adding that Putin and Xi had already met twice this year and would meet again at the upcoming APEC summit.
The summit is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen on Nov. 18-19.
The Kremlin has also said that a possible trilateral meeting involving Putin, Xi and US President Donald Trump had been discussed, although no final arrangements have been announced.
