About six persons have been killed and one other person injured after a mining pit collapsed in Babban-Rafi, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, Kefas Mallai, told the Peoples Gazette that the mining pit collapsed on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m
“At about 2:00pm on Tuesday, 22nd September, 2026, a mining site collapsed along Babban-Rafi, near Bokkos town, leading to the death of six. One person was injured,” he told The Gazette.
Mr Mallai stated that the bodies were evacuated from the collapsed mining pit on Tuesday.
“I’m on my way to meet a survivor who broke her leg. She was carrying her grand-daughter on her back when the pit collapsed,” he told The Gazette
He added that she survived after falling when the pit collapsed.
He stated, “The baby didn’t sustain any injury.”
The state police spokesman, Alfred Alabo, could not be reached for comment on the development.
Recall that in December 2019, six person died when a mining pit collapsed at Zawan Community in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.
