The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) has suspended its passenger train services on the Zambian side following an accident, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.

LUSAKA, April 13 (Xinhua) — The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) has suspended its passenger train services on the Zambian side following an accident, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The accident, which involved a rescue crane, happened on Monday in Mpika district north of Zambia, rendering the main track impassable, said Conrad Simuchile, head of public relations of TAZARA, in a release.

“Consequently, the section between Mpika and Sabwa is temporarily closed for repairs. This in effect means that passenger train operations in Zambia have been disrupted and shall remain suspended until further notice,” he said, assuring that engineers are working round the clock to restore normal train services as quickly as possible.
