The Good Lord Thanksgiving Ministry International (TGLTMI) – https://thegoodlordministry.org/
Beloved saints, partners, and citizens of the Kingdom of God, I speak to you today not merely as a watcher on the wall, but as a voice crying out for a radical awakening in the Body of Christ.
For too long, a dangerous, unbiblical myth has poisoned the pews of our churches: the lie that politics is too dirty for Christians, and that true spirituality requires us to retreat into the safety of our church walls while the world burns.
Hear me clearly: To abandon the political arena in the name of piety is nothing less than spiritual treason.
When Jesus Christ stood on the mount and delivered His manifesto, He did not call us to be the “sweetness of the sanctuary” or the “hidden candle of the vestry.” He used two highly disruptive, elements of nature to define our entire earthly mandate:
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” — Matthew 5:13–14.
As the President of The Good Lord Thanksgiving Ministry International (TGLTMI), I am making a comprehensive, methodological, and unapologetic case for why Christians must actively run for elective office, vote with prophetic precision, and accept positions of governance.
1. THE THEOLOGY OF SALT: RETARDING ROT AND DEMANDING CONTACT:
Salt is not a passive element. For salt to work, two things must happen: it must retain its distinct flavor, and it must make direct contact with that which is decaying.
If salt stays in the shaker, the meat rots. Politics is the structural framework of human society. When Christians refuse to participate in governance, we are keeping the salt in the shaker and then blaming the meat for rotting.
The Biblical Precedent of Structural Influence:
God has always placed His prime intercessors at the absolute apex of pagan and secular political power to preserve nations:
- JOSEPH THE PRIME MINISTER: He did not just interpret dreams; he managed the entire economic, agricultural, and political infrastructure of Egypt during a global crisis (Genesis 41). He used state machinery to preserve the lineage of the Messiah.
- DANIEL THE CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR: Through multiple regime changes (Babylonian to Medo-Persian), Daniel served as a top-tier government official (Daniel 6). His political excellence forced pagan emperors to issue decrees honoring the Living God.
2. THE THEOLOGY OF LIGHT: INVADING THE DARKNESS OF POLICY:
Light does not negotiate with darkness; it displaces it. Jesus said a city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Politics is that hill. The laws passed in parliament, the policies signed in executive chambers, and the judgments handed down in courts dictate how wealth is distributed, how the poor are treated, and whether the Gospel can be preached freely.
If the righteous refuse to sit on the hill of political power, the hill will not remain empty. It will be occupied by those who occupy darkness, and they will write laws that trample upon your faith, your family, and your future.
3. THE METHODOLOGICAL CASE: HISTORICAL PROOF OF TRANSFORMATIVE PRESENCE:
When the Body of Christ understands its “salt and light” mandate as a political obligation, civilization shifts. History is littered with examples of believers who realized that prayer without political execution is dead.
Ancient and Historical Examples:
- NEHEMIAH THE GOVERNOR: Nehemiah was a cupbearer—a high-ranking political staffer to a foreign king. When he saw the broken walls of Jerusalem, he didn’t just fast; he used his political leverage, secured state grants, obtained executive security clearances, and went down to physically rebuild the civic infrastructure of his nation (Nehemiah 2).
- WILLIAM WILBERFORCE AND THE CLAPHAM SECT: In 19th-century Britain, evangelical Christian William Wilberforce realized that preaching against the evils of the slave trade was not enough. He ran for Parliament, stayed in the political dogfight for decades, and methodically used the legislative process to pass the Slave Trade Act of 1807, crippling a global system of human trafficking.
Modern Examples:
- DR. MARTIN LUTHER JR.: A preacher who understood that the pulpit must inform the public square. He did not separate his faith from the political process; he used the moral weight of the Gospel to force legislative changes, culminating in the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.
- THE AFRICAN RENAISSANCE: In contemporary times, we have seen nations transformed when believers stop treating government as an enemy. When righteous men and women step into ministries of finance, education, and health, systemic bribery drops, and economic policies begin to favor the vulnerable.
4. THE MANDATE: THREE AREAS OF NON-NEGOTIABLE POLITICAL ACTION:
To every member of TGLTMI and the global Body of Christ, your citizenship in heaven does not cancel your civic responsibility on earth. In fact, it intensifies it.
We must engage in three distinct ways:
- POLITICAL ACTION: Voting; Standing for Election & Accepting Governance Appoints.
- SPIRITUAL REALITY: Civic Stewardship, Occupying the Hill & Joseph’s Mantle.
- THE “SALT & LIGHT” APPLICATION: Voting is a spiritual seed. To refuse to vote is to allow the wicked to choose your masters. We must vote for character, competence, and righteousness.
If God has given you the gift of leadership, administration, or law, running for office is not a worldly ambition—it is a divine assignment.
When righteous technocrats accept offers to serve as ministers, commissioners, and advisers, they bring divine wisdom into secular rooms to avert national disasters.
THE VERDICT: THE CONSEQUENCES OF STAYING IN THE SHAKER
Jesus gave a chilling warning about salt that loses its bite: “It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”
When the Church retreats from politics, she loses her social relevance. She becomes “good for nothing” in the eyes of a desperate world. If our nations are being trampled by inflation, insecurity, injustice, and moral decay, it is not because the darkness is too strong; it is because the light has hidden itself under a basket of fear and theological laziness.
Believers, it is time to shake off the dust of passivity. Register to vote. Join political parties. Fund righteous candidates. Run for office. Step into the corridors of power with the incorruptible flavor of the Holy Spirit.
Let us stop complaining about the dark, and let us start occupying the hill. The destiny of your nation is waiting for your manifestation.
Arise, shine, for your light has come!
