Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have ended their 72-hour lecture boycott over the institution’s inadequate transportation system.
The OAU Students’ Union, in a statement on Thursday, directed the resumption of all academic activities from Friday.
“Following the expiration of the 72-hour lecture boycott earlier announced in view of the ongoing line of communication and constructive negotiations with the University management, the Students’ Union hereby announced the end of the boycott. All academic activities are to resume normally with immediate effect from Friday, 17th April 2026.
“The leadership of the Students’ Union expresses profound appreciation to the entire student body for their unwavering compliance, resilience and steadfastness throughout the 72-hour period. Your unity and discipline made this peaceful and legitimate struggle possible.
“Details as to the outcome of the negotiations, when concluded, will be provided to the general students’ body and will also be presented at the next congress. We assure that they will continue to engage the management in good faith until all issues bordering on the new transport system are satisfactorily resolved. Further updates will be communicated as necessary,” said the union.
On Tuesday, the students embarked on a three-day boycott of academic activities.
The students also threatened to go on a mass protest over the inadequate transportation system provided by the institution’s authorities.
The student’s union, in a statement on Monday, ordered a 72-hour boycott after its congress meeting on Thursday and the subsequent joint meeting of the Central Executive Council, the Hall Executive Council, and the leadership of the Students’ Representative Council.
