The U.S. President Donald Trump administration on Monday charged 48 foreign nationals, including some Africans, for election-related crimes.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the charges involving 48 aliens in Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York, and Nevada in connection with illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and related election crimes in a statement.

In the Middle District of Pennsylvania, five aliens charged with illegally voting include two Kenyan nationals, Nina Nyawara, 21, and Joyce Donovan, 38. The duo are lawful permanent residents.

Also charged with voting by an alien were Russian national Inna Henry, 52, and Dutch national Joyce Pitts, 80, both lawful permanent residents.

Greek national Nourten Kuruju, 64, a lawful permanent resident, was similarly charged with voting by an alien.

In the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, four aliens, including an illegal alien, were charged with illegally voting, while in the Central District of California, 13 defendants in this jurisdiction face felony charges, including false statements in a naturalisation application.

Six were charged with voting by an alien in a federal election. This misdemeanour carries a statutory maximum sentence of one year in federal prison in the Eastern District of California.

Five were charged with attempted procurement of naturalisation contrary to law, false statement under oath in any matter relating to naturalisation or citizenship, and voting by an alien in the Northern District of California.

In the Southern District of California, four were charged with false claim to citizenship to vote, unlawful attempted procurement of naturalisation, and false statement under oath in a matter relating to naturalisation or citizenship.

Three aliens were charged with election-related crimes in the Eastern District of New York.
