The West African Examinations Council has released the results of candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations.

In a post on its official X handle on Monday, WAEC said, “The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for school candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024.”

The examination body therefore directed students who intend to access their results, to log on to “https://waecdirect.org”.

The WAEC’s Head of Nigerian Organisation, Amos Dangut, had earlier in a statement on Monday, described the exam which started April 30 to June 24, 2024, as a success.

Mr Dangut said, “The conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2024, the first conducted under my administration, was a huge success. Meanwhile, after my assumption of office, WASSCE for private candidates, 2023-second series and the novel computer-based WASSCE for private candidates, 2024-first series were successfully conducted.”

According to Mr Dangut, WAEC released the results of 1,685,889 candidates, which represents 93.9 per cent of the exam results released, adding that despite insecurity affecting the conduct of the exam in some states, 1,805, 216 candidates registered for the exam.

He said, “WAEC is releasing its results today as out of 1,805,216 that entered for the exam, 1,332, 089 candidates have credits in five subjects including any subjects with either Mathematics or English language and 1,301, 949 candidates got credits in five subjects including Mathematics and English language accounting for 72.9% of total candidates.”

“This is a 7.6 per cent decrease in examination performance compared to last year of 2023 WASSCE. Also 215, 267 results were withheld due to examination malpractice by the candidates. This accounts for 11.92% of the total number of candidates who wrote the examination.’’

Aside the insecurity in the country, WAEC also lamented the non-adherence to registration deadlines, financial issues/inflation and rogue website operators/shameless connivance of some supervisors.
