The longest-serving emir in Zamfara, Emir of Kwatarkwashi in Bungudu local government area, Ahmad Umar (Mai-Kwatarshi) has died.
He died on Thursday. He was 93.
Mr Umar was on the throne for 61 years.
The secretary to the state government, Kabiru Balarabe, who disclosed this in a public announcement, said the emir died after a prolonged illness at 93.
Mr Balarabe said his funeral prayer was conducted at 6:30 p.m. in the historic town of Kwatarkwashi according to Islamic rites.
The 93-year-old emir died in his palace.
