African champions Senegal lost their second straight Group I match 3-2 to Norway on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

A defensive error by Senegal helped Marcus Pedersen put Norway in the lead just before half-time, while Erling Haaland added to the tally three minutes into the second half, before Ismaila Sarr got one back for the Africans.

In the 58th minute, Halaand made it three while Sarr pulled one back again in the third minute of injury time in the second half to score his own brace, but it was too late to stage a comeback.

In the second group match on Monday, former world champions France defeated Iraq 3-0 with a brace by Kylian Mbappe, the first goal in the 14th minute and the second in the 54th minute, while the third was scored by Ousmane Dembélé in the 66th minute.

Third-placed Senegal and bottom-placed Iraq have no points, while Norway are second in the group with six points and have secured their passage into the round of 32, along with first-placed France.

In the group’s final matches on Friday, Norway and France will clash at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts to decide the group winner, while Senegal and Iraq will face off at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario.
