The police command in Akwa Ibom State said it arrested two out of five suspects for allegedly attempting to vandalise an electricity transformer in Ikot Idim Village in the Ika Local Government of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John said this in a statement in Uyo on Wednesday.

She said that a combined team of police, military and vigilance operatives arrested the suspects about 2 a.m. on August 24 in Ikot Idim village.

She said, “They were arrested due to credible intelligence received on Saturday August 23.”

Upon arrival at the scene, the joint security team successfully ambushed the suspects as they attempted to dismantle the transformer.’’

Ms John said that three out of the suspects escaped into a nearby bush.

She said that items recovered from the suspects included two gas cylinders, a towing chain, two iron cutters, an oxygen nozzle, two long constructive iron pipes and two mobile phones.

Ms John alleged that the suspects had confessed to the crime.

She said the police were on the trail of the three suspects, adding that further information would be released as the investigation progresses.
